I fished here this morning. This is the third time I've fished Lake Tabeaud and got skunked. The first time I fished the dam area on the mud flat side. The second time I fished the inlet. This time I fished from the left side of the dam to the intake for the Amador Canal. I walked about 100 yards down the left side and used lures, nightcrawlers, and Power Bait. I walked the rest of the way down the left side past the picnic areas to the intake and used lures. I used Panther Martins, Kastmasters, Tasmanian Devils, Little Cleo, and Cripplelures. I didn't see anything that looked like a fish.
When I got home, I went out on the web and several sites say that this lake has Rainbow and German Brown Trout, but I sure couldn't find anything. One good thing is that Lake Tabeaud is on the DFG list to be stocked.
If anyone out there knows how to fish this lake, please let me know. I've tried everything I can think of with no results.
Till next time, remember: "A bad day fishing is better than any day at work".

The only time you can catch fish in this lake is when the inlet from the mokelumne river is up. Its best in the summer and fall. Kind of an educated guess as to when the water is up though! the browns will SMASH on small rapalas crickets and grub worms in the inlet. The water level must be high for this lake to produce a catch. The main body holds the nice rainbows! troutkrilla on a sliding sinker with a 20" leader works best below the submerged bridge. The month of May will be good. But...SSSHHH!
ReplyDeleteI recently moved to Pioneer and I have had no luck at Lake Tabeaud either. I'm unfamiliar with the area. I fished the picnic area and the levy. If anyone knows can you please tell me how to get to the inlet or the dam and what type of lures and bait would you recommend. When fishing live bait are you fishing the bottom or a bobber? HELP!
ReplyDeleteif you fish the inlet, lures will work as well as drifted salmon eggs, worms and power eggs
ReplyDeletejust went there today with my dad and my buddy we caught a total of 13 between the three of us 12 rainbow and 1 brown like five of them 12 to 1 inches long the rest a little smaller and there's various ways to fish it
ReplyDeleteI went this evening and did very well.I usually go to the inlet where the water comes in to the submerged bridge.Drifting mini night crawlers, meal worms does best for me.
