Almost Didn't Get Skunked

It was like a Trout Pond reunion at Lake Amador today. Rich & Mark, Ken, a friend of Ken's who I don't know his name, Yuki , and a few friends from the lake, Vasily, Steve, and his son Wil. If we'd had beer, a BBQ, and some burgers, we could have had one big tailgate party. Only one that didn't show up, was the fish.

It was slim pickin's where the trout were concerned. Vasily seemed to be the big winner, He packed out a limit by Noon. Mark & Rich caught, at least one I saw, but other than that, it was a wash out.

I managed one hook up and a small fight, but it ran me into the cable across the spillway and eventually cut me off. And that, as they say in the movies, was a wrap.

I did see a lot and did a lot of sight fishing, but even running a lure in front of the fishes nose, all they did was ignore it.

Good to know they are still out there. Always next time. Tomorrow off to the ISE, so when I get home, I'll let you know what I think. All I plan to hit is the fishing section as I'm not a hunter.

Till then.

Mark

  2. Sounds like you had a good time even without fish.
That is why they call it fishing not catching.
    Cheers

Its good sometimes to hang out with your buddies, and forget about the fish catching. I agree a brew would have been good. Nothing like haveing close friends to shoot the breeze with. My target date to get back out on the water is 2 weeks from now, that is when out little local lake opens. I will be trying to land some of the monster crappie. Smith Lake the big lake where i fish most of the time will not be right until the first of March. That is when I will be chasing those mean spots again. Have a good weekend.

  5. Hello Mark,
First of all, my apologies for not introducing myself to you when we first met at the trout pond. I'm Ken's friend Kevin (the other guy in the green float tube). Just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy reading your blog...it is very humorous and entertaining. Noticed that your all time favorite movie is "The Final Countdown"----that's one of mine too along with other Navy movies like "Search for the Red October, Top Gun, Crimson Tide, etc. Served ten years as an Engineering Officer (Lietenant) in the Naval Reserve.
