The Rim Fire

You remember me telling you about the Rim Fire that was burning down and in Yosemite National Park?

Yeh, it's still burning, if you can believe that. It's been more than 2 months since it was started by an illegal fire started by a hunter.

Current size is 257,000 acres and has cost more than 127 million dollars to fight.

Cal Fire estimates full containment by this weekend.

I've never been able to understand the people that are going to stay and protect their house.

Would you?

Would I? Not a chance.

Mark

  1. Wow, I'd forgotten about that. The numbers are simply breathtaking. What a shame. I hope you keep us updated on the recovery process.

  2. Amazing, once the media gets bored they just forget about it. Down here we are watching the big burn in Australia and here in Fiji it is raining. I'll try to send some your way.

One can replace material things, but not lives--where is the money coming from to fight this fire?

    1. Since Cal Fire is in charge, most of the money would come from the state. We also have a yearly assessment of between $115 & $150 from those living in fire areas that helps.

  4. Out of sight, out of mind in my case, Mark. Thank you so much for bringing us back into focus on this devastating fire in one of America's most special places. As far as folks being stubborn and not wanting to leave their home. I can see it both ways, but I personally, would skedaddle!

  5. Who cares Mark? Have you seen what Kim and Miley have been up too? :D

Kidding aside, it is amazing how things like the rim fire just seem to blip out of existence in the media. Hope you and your loved ones are out of harms way.
