I Never Thought I'd Say This

If you haven't seen the news, we have a huge storm coming in this afternoon here in California.

The reports coming out of Lake Camanche have been "They're stocking, but no one is catching".

Since my yearly pass expired at the end of September, I thought I'd get out of the house before the storm got here and drive out to Camanche and renew it. Just in case the fish might be biting, I also took my gear. One has to be prepared.

When I got to check-in and re-upped my pass (at a slightly higher price), the girl said catching was being done. OK, paid for the fishing tag and was on my way to the North Shore Day Use Area.

I came prepared for cold. What I didn't come prepared for was this cold. Like the title, I thought I'd never say this, but it was too cold for fishing. Every year it seems harder for me to handle the cold during the Winter. This morning it was 42 degrees with a wind blowing at maybe 15 from the SW. Wind chill was probably high 30's.

I had a long sleeve t-shirt on, jeans, my Winter Parka (with hood), ball cap, and fleece gloves.

I froze..........

It was so cold I couldn't even tie a hook on the line. It's hell getting old. It's also cold.

I did manage 2 hours without a bite and wasn't alone. The guy behind me didn't get anything either.

I don't know who's been catching, but it wasn't us that's for sure.

I've batten down my hatches and maybe I'll get another chance one day next week after the second storm goes by. We have one starting today and another for this weekend. The "storm door" is open.

Stay tuned.
